Three Volleys

Knock the air from my lungs
Draw my attention unending
Loose my heart from my chest

Nock! Draw! Loose! (x3)

Three volleys can decimate an army.
But I am only one woman.
I heard the call and I observed the flight.
I will keep dodging these volleys ’til the edge of night.

Knock me off my feet
Draw away from me
Loose the chill winds of winter upon my soul.

Nock! Draw! Loose! (x3)

Three volleys can turn the tide.
I am but a single woman with nowhere to hide.
I saw the arrows coming from a mile away
So I raised my shield and there they’ll stay.

Knock my hand away
Draw my heart’s blood
Loose my anguish, revel in my pain.

Nock! Draw! Loose! (x3)

Three volleys can win the day
But I’m just a single woman and I’m here to stay.
I heard the order and I noted the trajectory
Stepping aside was quite elementary.

At your gate now I stand,
Extending to you my heart held in my hand.
Unwounded and yet still bleeding,
In my eyes you see the pain but the light is not retreating.

Walled up in your keep you’d claim to protect me from you rather than you from me.
But there is no doubt for it is plain to see that you are in fact afraid of me.
Three times you fired, three times you missed.
A rain of arrows, a barrage of boughs and yet still I march ever forward.

What is it that you fear?
For all I offer is a mirror.
